Welcome to Sandra Martin Studios.
I’m Sandra Gisela Martin, a German-born artist and anthropologist based in Utrecht. I am fascinated amongst other things by how objects mediate human relationships. My art is my way of exploring this; it’s where my intellectual curiosity and my artistic practice meet.
My artistic work starts with the hunt for materials—I seek out discarded windows and old glass, drawn to the history held in their scratches and imperfections. On these reclaimed surfaces, I paint luminous, often figurative forms, creating a dialogue between the material’s past and the new stories I bring to it. My process is both intuitive and investigative, grounded in the physical interplay of light, color, and transparent surface.
When I’m not in the studio, I serve as Head of Community Engagement and interdisciplinary anthropologist of the Oceanographies Collective.
I also host workshops and a regular art salon, creating spaces for shared creative exploration.
